I've read Fenster's Conspiracy Theories: Secrecy and Power in American Culture and have on order Timothy Melley's Empire of Conspiracy. I found Fenster's book a bit dense at times (it's published by U Minnesota) but very, very interesting in its explanation of why people believe in conspiracy theories. I look forward to Melley's ideas about agency panic.
