The Libertarian Fantasy: A Half Assed Manifesto

Unfettered free enterprise and human freedom are neither compatible nor congruent. 

 

The first inevitably suppresses the second.

Far more than a typical government, the corporation is the greatest threat to human freedom.

Corporations are masks donned by the powerful which allow them to be free of the responsibility for crime committed in the pursuit of wealth. 

The corporation actively subverts representative government through corruption of elected officials.

This ensures that the regulators and the regulations emanate from the corporation itself and regulate little or nothing of significance. 

The corporation exists with the total cooperation of venal men in government.  It has been granted all the rights and few, if any, of the responsibilities of a human being.

Corporations allow men who own and control them to ignore whatever shreds of moral philosophy linger in their beings. 

Free enterprise must be vigorously regulated by the people to protect themselves and the planet from the depredations of those capitalists who are motivated by greed alone.  

The libertarian movement is an adolescent fantasy which benefits selfish people who put their greed ahead of all other considerations. They have convinced the libertarian that the government, which has been corrupted by the corporations and their masters, themselves, is the problem.The whole concept of human freedom has been hijacked by those who proclaim free enterprise as the highest good. Human freedom and free enterprise are, in fact, antagonistic interests.

These wicked people make myrmidons of those myopic children who resent being told what to do or what not to do and have idealized the so-called freedom espoused by the libertarian movement as the highest good. These wealthy, powerful and oftentimes royal people have their wealth mostly because they have inherited it, not because they have provided great value to society. They are privileged from birth.  They are literally entitled.

The vast majority of human beings are not interested in amassing inordinate wealth and power. Those who live for wealth and power can be described as sociopaths. The quest for gold and power is empty at last.The frustration of this quest experienced by those materialists who can imagine nothing better generates havoc in the world for the rest of us.

Activate the Death Star.

These creatures have become adept at characterizing their greed for wealth and power as good. 

"Greed is good."

 They have their shills who perform sleight of hand to deceive.  Some appeal to fools.

Your problems come from Queers, Women, Blacks, Mexicans, Chinks, Commies, Liberals, and Socialists! Corporations? What the Hell are you talking about?

Some appeal to the more intelligent.

Some appeal to the petty bourgeoisie.

“I think it's going to be one of the biggest middle-class jobs -- collaborators. Collaborators are people who are good at working as part of global knowledge, manufacturing or supply chains.” - Thomas Friedman lets the cat out of the bag but no one notices.

In the absence of government, these wicked greedy people and their corporate entities will not go away nor disappear nor become virtuous.  They will simply no longer have to honor the pretense of abiding by the law.  

Weak government will facilitate the new feudalism. 

The powerful will reign and the majority will serve as in days of old, only this time the technology to keep the people down and hold power and extend the lives of the enemies of humanity will be at their disposal. That technology has emboldened them. They are increasingly proclaiming their intentions to eliminate any considerations for the people. The are no longer afraid of the guillotine.  They should be.

‎"Corporations are people, my friend... of course they are. Everything corporations earn ultimately goes to the people. Where do you think it goes? Whose pockets? Whose pockets? People's pockets. Human beings my friend."  

So said Mitt Romney, quoted by the Huffington Post at the Iowa State Fair yesterday, denigrating and insulting good people everywhere when he was asked why he is attacking "entitlements" rather than looking to fairly tax and eliminate loopholes for corporations. At the same time he conjured the concept of "The People" as expounded in the Declaration of Independence, intentionally confounding this noble concept with his rich friends and cronies who actually are invested in the big corporations.

Be wary of the man who addresses you as "my friend."

What kind of "people" are corporations?

Big corporations act like people who are thousands of times more powerful than any real human being, and are totally immoral because their only interest, by law, is to make a profit by any means necessary.

A corporation is an atheist, dreamless, sleepless predator. 

It acts like a human possessed by a ferocious selfish demon.

Corporations enable small men to indulge their basest instincts with invulnerability. 

What  nice "people" are corporations!

They are conspiracies, exclusive socialist creations of the plutocrats, to mass and aggrandize their ill-gotten mostly inherited wealth.
These fictions chartered by government and protected by law have all the rights and few of the responsibilities of a human being.
They facilitate cooperation among the fortunate wealthy against the lesser human beings who toil for a living.
In a true capitalist system the rich and powerful would have to compete with each other. 
The corporations allow natural enemies to easily join forces against the people. 

They cannot die because they do not truly live. 

They cannot be jailed for their crimes.

The owners of the corporations are protected from responsibility for the wicked deeds committed by these entities which act on behalf of the power of their riches.

Supreme Court "justices" in the possession of the wealthy declared these insane entities "people" with all the rights and none of the responsibilies of real "people" during the administration of Ulysses S. Grant.

American freedom has been disappearing ever since.

Thus the wealthy corrupt the power of government to aggrandize themselves while successfully convincing the people that the government, their only means of peaceful remedy against the depradations of the rich, is the source of their suffering, rather than a tool for its respite.

It doesn't really matter. The Corporations already rule this land. There are few politicians who are not already in thrall to them. People elected Democrats last fall expecting robust change. We got a herd of weak-kneed "moderates". The Bush Wars go on. Private Corporate Armies (er, security services) grow like cancer. The banks go unregulated. Real wages fall. Unemployment increases. The People grow in poverty while their money goes to the bankers.

A consistent 60% of the public responded to polls all year supporting a single payer government run health insurance system in this country as the only way to actually gain efficiencies in the huge amount of money (highest per capita in the world) going into paying for American health care. We know much of this money is wasted on executive salaries, bonuses and perquisites, stockholder profits, duplication of services, palatial buildings, byzantine record keeping, gatekeepers whose job it is to prevent you from getting health care, and last but not least, lobbying politicians and hiring them when they retire from Congress. The people clamor not for a government option. Nor do they wail for taxpayer subsidies for the corrupt profit motivated insurance companies to provide a crappy health plan to people without one.

But true reform of the Health Cartel (which would be Government provided insurance as practiced in most of the advanced democracies in the world) was not even discussed in the halls of what Fox News would have you believe to be a Congress controlled by a "liberal" Democratic Party. The "reforms" discussed would have ended up costing more money than the disfunctional system now in effect, involved the government even more in health treatment, and maintained the health insurance establishment as the gatekeepers to health care. Everyone senses that something smells vile in Washington. No one can deny that.

If a supposedly liberal party representing the people with large majorities in Congress and the Presidency cannot truly reform such an obviously corrupt system without introducing more corruption benefiting Corporations, then you know who rules the roost. If the Financial Institutions representing the Super Rich who rule this country are the only interests that receive significant government get-well money after crashing the economy into a tree at the end of a drunken decades long thrill ride (first ensuring that all rules of the road were abolished or ignored and that no police would be on duty to notice the spree) then every politician in Washington is nothing more than a slick gibberish-spouting corporate flack man. (I'm sorry for the long sentences; I really am.)

Corporations were granted person hood status in the United States as a result 1886 Supreme Court Case, Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad, 118 U.S. 394. Earlier, in Trustees of Dartmouth College v. Woodward, 17 U.S. (4 Wheat.) 518 (1819), the Supreme Court settled that, for our purposes, corporate contracts were private charters that superseded government attempts to alter or control them as public charters. Corporations were invented to pool capital for a specific purpose. Historically they were strictly controlled by public entities (government) to limit their activities and longevity. In the United States corporations were unleashed by these decisions of a Supreme Court composed predominantly of corporate lawyers. Corporations were granted by their Supreme Court servants all of rights of individuals and very very few of the responsibilities. The road to Fascism was thereby open and the rich have ridden their armored corporate buggies on it ever since. The Corporation became a tool to increase the power and influence of those who already had too much of both; it also shielded these craven creatures from responsibility for the misdeeds, debts and crimes committed by these fictional "persons" for their profit.

Once the corporate culture of irresponsibility was born, the Rollerball world we now endure could built on the Lie that individual freedom depends on greater Corporate Freedom. Corporate freedom and individual freedom are incompatible. Individual freedom is compromised by the unfettered Corporation far more than it is by Big Government. In our case the government has become merely a rump government rubber stamping corporate policy.

The people theoretically have a say in who runs the government in a democracy. Only a few major stockholders have any say in the way corporations are run and how they influence the governments they have corrupted. We know where the government is and we know who runs it; and we know who to pursue in a revolution when that becomes necessary. The families and individual hungry vampires behind Corporate Power are more resourceful, anonymous, amorphous, shape shifting, and ephemeral, therefore, far more dangerous to the people on whom they prey than the pathetic government bureaucrat who is their functionary. The next revolution, before it begins, must learn the lesson of identifying the true enemy and who is to blame for this world of trouble and suffering before the proscription lists are drawn up.

So, this decision to institutionalize corporations as speechifying persons just makes obvious what is already a reality. Perhaps this will make the identities (or at least the tools) of our true masters a little more apparent. Corporations have been successfully promoting "Big Government" as the problem for a long time in a gigantic misdirection campaign worthy of world class illusionists like Criss Angel or Lance Burton. Maybe we will more clearly see who has hijacked "Big Government" and just how feeble "Big Government" has become.

This representative Republic has been totally compromised. If you think electing a Democrat or Republican will improve things you should check your programming. If your enjoyment of freedom is the vicarious enjoyment of observing the antics of the super rich then you have succumbed to the Patty Hearst Syndrome. When the system only serves the needs of those who have no needs, We need a Revolution.
